Hot Air Balloons

Watch the sunrise while seeing the sites of ancient tombs and temples such as Ramesseun, Temple of Karnak, Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings and Queens and Temple of Deir al-Bahir just to name a few. Experience the life of Luxor, while flying over the beautiful landscapes of local villages, sugarcane fields and the Nile River.  We guarantee this will be a Once-in-a Lifetime Experience!

Getting started

Our air-conditioned shuttle, will arrive at your accommodation the morning of your ride around 4am. You will then be transferred by boat across the Nile River to West Bank, where you will be greeted by members of our staff with complimentary coffee, tea and snacks waiting for you. The pilot of your balloon, will provide you with a safety briefing while on the boat and answer any questions that you might have.

Once the pilot goes over the Pre-Inflation Checklist (checking the basket, rigging, fuel, instruments, fire extinguisher and launch restraint), he will then give a quick briefing to the ground crew. They will then start the cold inflation using a few 13hp fans, which fill the balloon envelope quite quickly. When the envelope is as full as possible without using heat, it will then be ready for the hot inflation using the strong flame from the balloons burner. The pilot will do another safety check of the balloon wires, burners, basket, and the envelope inside and out.

Once complete, the pilot will start the hot inflation process. The balloon will then start to stand up right, at that time the passengers will be able to approach the balloon to start boarding with the assistance of ground crew personal. The pilot will again check the entire balloon before take off and provide another safety briefing to the passengers. At which time, the launch site controller will check the paperwork and give the pilot permission for take-off.

The take-off is so gentle that most passengers don't realize they have left the ground, and as we become one with the wind you will lose the sensation of motion and perception of heights. You will then begin to feel the peacefulness and tranquility of ballooning, except for the occasional noise of the balloon burners. You might feel a considerable amount of heat from the burners, and passengers may be asked to lean in towards the pilot where the heat shield is provided for them.

The flight is up to one hour from take off to landing, and also depends on weather conditions at the time. Your pilot will always has the best interest of the passengers and himself in mind, with safety as his #1 priority.

You will experience breathtaking views of Luxor, as well as ancient temples and tombs with opportunities to get some amazing photos! You will also see the life of farmers and other locals as we fly over fields, where the people are irrigating their land, gathering crops, and caring for their animals.

To ensure all passengers have an equal opportunity to view everything and take photos, the pilot will be sure to rotate the balloon during the flight. Please keep in mind, the pilot is under the control of Luxor Airport and must follow their instructions, which in rare cases can cause the flight to be a little shorter then expected.

Before landing, the pilot will remind the passengers of the landing position and then he will look for a spot to land, which is usually an empty field or desert area with access for the ground crew and vehicles to retrieve the balloon. The landing is usually very gentle so that you don’t feel the balloon touch the ground. On rare occasions, it can be bumpy due to the wind which is why it is very important to follow the pilot's instructions for your safety and comfort.

Your pilot will then wait until the balloon is deflated and packed by the ground crew, before asking the passengers to get out of the basket with assistance. If the venue is suitable, the celebration of landing may lead to dancing or singing by the local people or the crew. You will also have the opportunity to take photos with the local people, or do some fossil hunting according to the site. You will then be awarded your Flight Completion certificate!

Within reason after the trip, passengers are escorted locally where they wish. They may return to their accommodation or go elsewhere, perhaps to the Valley of the Kings or Karnak Temple.
