The Best Tips for Cleaning Dishes Fast and Effectively

There are lots of different ways that you could clean your dishes. You could buy expensive cleaning products and a wide array of cleaning tools as well to deal with every kind of cleaning problem, but we want to show you a few tips you can use to clean your dishes very well, very fast and with minimal effort and money spent. We’re assuming that you don’t have a dishwashing machine with these tips, but you can use a lot of them with a dishwasher as well. Many times, the dishwasher will not get rid of tough grime that has accumulated on your dishes, and you will need to treat or scrub the dishes ahead of time before putting them into the washing machine.

Pre-soaking is the best way to get rid of grime that is stuck on your dishes. You simply soak the dishes in enough water to cover up the caked-on substances. You don’t have to submerge the entire dish, and you don’t have to use detergent or dishwashing liquid. You should use hot water, though, as it breaks down particles much faster than cold water would.

For most dishes and most substances, you should only have to let it soak for about a minute. That should be enough to loosen everything up and make it come off with a simple swipe of your scrubbing pad.

Have the Right Tools

One of the most important aspects of cleaning dishes, especially if you are cleaning them by hand, is to have the right tools available to use. You can get rid of most accumulated food on your dishes by using a scrub pad and some dishwashing liquid. The scrubbing pad should ideally be something that is a sponge on one side and rough scrubber one other. This lets you deal with a multitude of dishes and food grime with one tool. On top to that, you should also get a metal scrubbing pad. You won’t use this as often, but it will come in handy. You also don’t want to use this metal tool on any glassware, as it can scratch the glass and weaken it over time. Use Hot Water as a Degreaser

Degreasers often contain strong chemicals that you don’t want in your kitchen, and there is a better way to deal with greasy dishes than using something like that. Simply boil some water or use hot tap water to get rid of the grease quickly and effectively. Be careful that you don’t burn yourself, but simply pouring some hot water onto butter knives, butter dishes, frying pans and other dishes that are filled with greasy foods can be all you need to get them looking spotless in seconds. This is a cheap and fast way to deal with grease without ever having to resort to using another tool.

Dry Everything Thoroughly

You want to be careful about putting dishes into your cupboards before they are dry. This is especially true of items you stack like plates or items that you cover, like thermoses. If there is water trapped in them when you store them away, that water can attract mould and start to grow nasty things that you don’t want on your dishes. Keep a hand towel by the sink to deal with the wet dishes. It’s best not to just try to hand dry everything as soon as you wash it. Instead, pack your dishes into a dish drainer and let them dry out for a while. Then, you can use a hand towel as you put them into the cupboards to ensure that everything is completely dry. This is also a good time to inspect your dishes to ensure that you cleaned off all the food particles.

This is also a good practice for those who use dishwashers. Not all dishwashers will dry the dishes very well, and you will want to ensure they are all hand dried before placing them into your cupboards. By taking the time to do this, you will keep from having to wash dishes multiple times and ensure that mould cannot grow on your wares.

Standing Water or Running Water?

Obviously, running water wastes a lot water and uses up more resources, while a sink full of water leaves you with a lot of dirty water by the end that you will be sticking your hands and dishes into. If you can work with it, then running water is the best way to go. It cleans the dishes more thoroughly and makes things easier on you. You will spend less time washing dishes and be more likely to get off all the contaminants and germs.
