Types of Neck Pain

Neck pain can be caused by a variety of factors and can present in different ways. Here are some of the most common types of neck pain:

  1. Muscle strain: This occurs when the muscles in your neck are stretched or pulled beyond their limits, leading to pain and stiffness.

  2. Pinched nerve: This is when a nerve in your neck is compressed or "pinched," which can cause pain, numbness, or tingling in your neck, shoulders, arms, or hands.

  3. Whiplash: This is a type of injury that occurs when your head is suddenly jerked forward and then backward, causing strain to the muscles and ligaments in your neck.

  4. Osteoarthritis: This is a type of arthritis that affects the joints in your neck, causing pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion.

  5. Herniated disc: This is when a disc in your neck bulges or ruptures, putting pressure on nearby nerves and causing pain, numbness, or weakness in your neck, shoulders, arms, or hands.
