Why is my Nintendo Switch Console not charging?

Nintendo Switch Consoles are generally resilient.  Is your Nintendo Switch Console not charging anymore?  Here are a few things to check before having your Nintendo Switch Console repaired locally or shipping it to Nintendo for Repair.

  1. Have a look at the Nintendo Switch USB charging socket and see if any dust is inside or if any of the pins are bent.
  2. Try a friend’s charger, assuming you have access to one.
  3. Does your Nintendo Switch charge ok in the dock?
  4. As a last Resort you could unplug and shut down your Nintendo Switch and hold the power button down for 30 seconds to reset the switch.
  5. Switch on the Nintendo console and try a system update and then try your charger again.

If all else fails then your Nintendo Switch will need repairs.  At City PC Repairs the most common Nintendo Switch Repair we conduct is replacement of the USB charging port.  The socket is a USB C type but slightly different from most other USB C connectors.

Most Computer and Consoles repairs shop should be able to repair your Nintendo Switch charging socket for around £50 to £75, but it does require experience in Micro-Soldering so shop around.  At the time of writing currently Nintendo charge around £150.
