About Solar Scout
Solar Scout helps New Zealand homeowners work out whether rooftop solar is worth it for their own home, then matches them with vetted local installers. Using real LiDAR mapping data from LINZ, we build a free, personalised solar report for each customer's exact address: likely system size, estimated savings, and payback.
What sets us apart is independence. Solar Scout does not sell or install solar itself, so our guidance stays unbiased and every homeowner gets an honest answer, even when solar isn't right for their roof. We only refer people to trusted, vetted installers who pass our own checks: EWRB registration, real reviews, industry membership, and a minimum of five years' solar experience.
We cover all 16 regions of New Zealand, from Northland to Southland, and the service is entirely free for homeowners. There is no cost, no pushy sales process, and no obligation to proceed.
Solar Scout is New Zealand owned and built by people who work in the solar industry, so the advice reflects how solar actually performs on real Kiwi homes, not averages or guesswork.
How it works
Enter your address and answer a few quick questions about your property and power use. We build a free, personalised solar report using real LiDAR mapping data: likely system size, estimated savings, and payback, specific to your roof, not an average.
Our installer vetting
Every installer we refer passes four checks: EWRB registration, real customer reviews and references, industry membership, and a minimum of five years' solar experience. We do not sell or install solar ourselves, so there is no incentive to push a bad fit.
