About: Throughout the year they will run three, independent, 10 week courses on Silversmithing - Course 1: On this course beginners will learn the basics of silversmithing including using a piercing saw, texturing, filing, polishing, silver soldering, making a bail and making a silver pendant. Intermediate students will design and make a silver bangle, cuff or bracelet, and explore working with other materials and silver, for example PMC, recycling, mixed metals combining copper, silver, brass, and gold. Course 2: Beginners will learn to make plain and decorated silver rings to the correct ring size. Intermediate students will learn a range of texturing and forming techniques to include reticulation, doming, fold forming, using the rolling mill for texturing silver and using hammers and stakes; and will then design and make a piece of silver jewellery using any of these techniques. Course 3: You will be taught how to set semi-precious cabochon stones into a piece of silver jewellery of your choice, this could be a pendant, earrings or another ring. Intermediate students will design and produce a piece of jewellery inspired by a silversmith of your choice, whilst learning further stone setting techniques such as tube setting and simple basket setting. This will encourage students to develop their own individual style of jewellery making, whilst preparing students for progression on to the more advanced silversmithing courses.
